About Us

Hi!  I’m Katrina and this is my husband, Chris.  We’re Pacific Northwest Natives who met in high school art class — nothing more romantic than forming coil pots and wire sculptures together!  Seriously, though, it wasn’t really love at first sight.  I joke that it took me four years to convince Chris that he wanted to date me!  He still thinks it was his idea.

Despite the fact that this picture looks like the Oregon Coast, was actually taken in Skagen, Denmark!

After college, we got married in a happy, happy ceremony in June 2007 (June 29, honey, if you need a reminder!).

Look at how young we are! Little babies.

Three days after returning from our Hawaiian honeymoon, we moved to Arizona to have a new adventure and pursue careers as teachers.  At what we thought would be the bottom of the market, we bought this foreclosure as an investment.  It wasn’t the bottom of the market.  Not. Even. Close. We held on for a pretty wild five-year ride!

Sweet memories abound in this great house!

Soon, the allure of sweet gray skies, green grass, and rocky beaches called us back to the great PNW.  By the grace of God, we got a full price offer on our house AND two job offers at the same school on the same day.  I’m not kidding.  You can’t make this stuff up!

After renting an adorable, yet exceedingly snug 525 square foot fishing-shack-turned-rental-cottage on a lake for a year, we bought our “Forever Home” in June 2014.

I am showing you the view for a reason. The reason is that the inside was so dinky it was literally impossible to get a decent picture!

When we moved into our new house, Chris discovered something about me that he may have only caught glimpses of in the past: I nest.  Obsessively.  I think it’s in my blood.  My parents bought a 100-year-old farmhouse when I was 1; remodeling it was a family affair.

Isn't she a beaut?

When I was a kid, I rearranged the furniture in my room four times a year, corresponding with the four seasons.  What can I say?  I liked the view of the snow on the roof in winter, so I needed the bed under the dormer window where the icicles hung down like sparkling daggers.  I liked the sunrise over the mountains in the summer, so I needed the bed next to the east window to catch the first pink rays of sun dancing off the mountain. I decorated my room for the seasons, so it’s no surprise that moving into our Forever Home unleashed a nesting monster in me!

Armed with a new appreciation of the Pacific Northwest and all it has to offer and a very limited budget (we’re teachers, remember!), Chris and I have been personalizing our home and garden ever since.  This blog is the story of PNW Best Coast Living at its best, from decorating and DIY to traveling the best coast and homesteading.  We’re so glad you’re on this journey with us!

Best,

Katrina & Chris
